Eagle Project Final Workday!!

We had a great Eagle workday yesterday. This day was to lay the pavestone pathway leading from the sidewalk to the flagpole. We had great helpers, which made all the difference. This is Michael Morris and his son Nathaniel. Michael was our expert because he had installed pavestone before. The Park and Onstead kids were super helpful!

So were their dads......
We removed the framework from the slab - it looks great. The kids helped us move the stones from one side of the building to another. These are the same stones that Ryan used at the church years ago. It saved us lots of money to reuse them.
We had to remove two more bushes to make room for the path.
The glitch of the day was that water kept appearing near the sidewalk. We knew that a sprinkler head was near there, but we had not found it yet. Mason tried to feel for it. Tim found it later. We did not damage it, so we figured the water was coming from somewhere else. It appears that there is a leak at a higher spot that keeps draining down to this spot. This created quite a problem. We are hoping that we did the right thing by putting some pea gravel down and then mixing some dry concrete in with the paver base. It set up nicely, so we think it worked in that spot. Hopefully they will get the leak fixed soon and there will be no problem with the path.
Snack time!
After all the digging was done, we (well...Tim) used the compactor to pack the ground.
Then we dumped 4 inches of paver base and compacted that at two intervals.

Finally, we put down sand and placed the stones.

We did it in sections, and nailed down the paver edging as we went.
I guess I don't have pictures, but we compacted the stones, put down polymeric sand, swept it into the cracks between the stones, and watered it in so that the sand would harden between the stones.
We had a great clean-up crew.
The finished product.
The flagpole dedication ceremony is Friday during the school's morning chapel. Mason will bring his guitar to lead the singing, and he will read a scripture and say a few words. The flag will then be hoisted for the "first" time. We had to put it up yesterday to make sure everything was okay. It was a good thing we did because we had to make some adjustments.
It is a HUGE flag!!

I am so very proud of my boy!!
