For almost 10 years I have sat at this table in our schoolroom teaching Mason and Mallory. We have spent many, many hours together in this room. We have made many memories - a few we would like to forget, but the majority of which we will always treasure.
Here are M and M on Mason's first day of Kindergarten - August 2001

Fast forward to the first day of school this year - August 2010

Well, the schoolroom is no more. Mason and Mallory have been wanting a music room, and we decided to give it to them for Christmas. They thought they were going to get it at the end of the school year, but we surprised them with it early. As they are getting older and having more out classes, they are doing more of their work at the desks in their bedrooms. Next year, they both will have all of their classes taught outside of the home. I imagine I will have a hard time transitioning to this schedule. I have loved my job for the last ten years, and I will miss it. I can get teary thinking about my favorite
homeschool moments - reading out loud to the kids, listening to Adventures in
Odyssey during lunch, etc. Technically, the place where they will have their classes is a "
homeschool school." They state that the parents are still the primary teachers. This is nice of them and all...but I don't really see it that way. I will just be overseeing their work schedule at home, not teaching anything. I think I'll just move on to talking about the music room before I get too sentimental.
Here's to making new memories in this room!
(I will confess that I just went into the music room and cried as I told my three family members that I was so glad that they were in there making memories together - without me. Maybe I should take singing lessons!)

What a beautiful room - can't wait to see it in person. And, thanks for sharing the post of your personal journey - Mason and Mallory have been so blessed by your diligence, teaching, and rich traditions - what a heritage! Julie. P.S. You can be the music room snack lady!
That room looks so different! I look forward to hearing/seeing all the new memories that will be built there....with you, too, Kel!
