Medina Children's Home

Our Family Bible Class went on a mission trip this weekend to a children's home about an hour northwest of San Antonio.  Everyone worked so hard, and it was nice to be able to help them out a bit.

Tim and Mason spent most of their time helping one set of house parents move to a different cottage.  Tim had to move a refrigerator a couple of times.  For some reason, the owner decided to leave MANY cases of bottled water in the fridge.  Tim keeps telling us how much weight he thinks that added to his job.  The number tends to grow each time he tells it -  I think he is up to 80 pounds now.
There was one cottage that has been empty for 6 months, and they needed it cleaned and ready for a new set of kids.  When it was vacated, it was left a disaster.  Then it sat for 6 months.  WOW.  I spent the whole day in the kitchen with a lady from our church.  Anyone want some tortillas that expired in 2007 or some taco shells from 2003?

One of the ways that they make money for the campus is by selling the pecans from their orchard.  They have thousands of pecans!!!  Mal spent lots of time shelling them.
This is the device she used.
 And no, thousands
is not an exaggeration.  We shelled quite a few and were told that it would bring in about $200.
Last night we divided up and ate dinner in the cottages.  Our family went to a girl's cottage.  Most of the girls were friendly and talkative - in fact they seemed to really like the attention.  While we did not ask any direct questions about their situation, we gathered some details from things that they said.  This place is such a blessing for these kids, and some of them really broke our hearts.

After dinner our group led the campus in worship.  It was a really special time!

This is a perfect place for families to serve together since they have work to do for all ages.  We really hope we are able to go back again soon!
