Tennis, Teacher

Jake played singles in the ECISD Invitational this past weekend. He has really been working on his serve...coach told him his foot is quite close to the fault line (above) so he has to work on that before he gets to high school.  He placed third in the tournament. It was 34 degrees when they started playing! During the last match, Jake and his opponent were tied 6-6. The tournament started at 8 a.m., and it was now 6:30 p.m...and getting dark! At 6-6 they couldn't see the ball, so everyone packed up and drove over to the Odessa Country Club where they have lighted courts. I could not believe we had to do that for only two more sets! Such is the life in Odessa, where sports are taken quite seriously!

Luke was invited to the Awards of Excellence Banquet May 1. He will be receiving the Excellence in Math Award. The honorees are supposed to provide a series of photos for a banquet slide show. One assigned picture is the student with their favorite teacher. This is Ms. May, his British Literature teacher. She cried when Luke asked her to attend the banquet. The last time I met her she told me she prays for her students. When I took their photo this morning up at Permian, she was teary-eyed, again. We are so thankful for the wonderful teachers Luke has been blessed with during his high school years. Wednesday is Senior Fun Day, and Luke is part of a volleyball team that will play in a Fun Day tournament - he's pretty excited!

That is a seriously long tennis day! That action shot should be framed, too!
How special that teacher must feel, what a blessing Luke is!
