We had a surprise party last night for Mason's 16th birthday, and it was a HUGE success! We planned it about a month ago, and that is about how long I have stressed over keeping it a secret and making it fun for the kids. Mason was totally surprised!! We said that our family was going to have father/son-mother/daughter night. We do this every now and then, so it was nothing unusual. Mal and I left for church (the location of the party) and Mason waited for Tim to get home from work. As was planned, Tim called me from the car and left it on speaker. I asked them if they could go by church to see if Mal had left her Bible there on Wednesday night. I said it was no big deal if it was not on their way, and that we could just look on Sunday. Tim said that they were going by there so they would pop in and look. We all lined up against the wall and Mason and Tim entered the doors to the left. As Mason came in the kids all yelled "Happy Birthday."
It was so very fun to see that he had no idea and was quite shocked that this was a party for him.
Ben Crosby picked Mason up and the kids (on their own) started singing Happy Birthday.
This is a great group of polite, fun teenagers!
Dodge Ball was first on the list of things to do. This is always a crowd favorite. Tim was the best! He kept all the games running smoothly and helped when the rules needed to be adjusted.
Brief prayer time....
We pretty much finished off 15 large pizzas.
Can I just say that I could not have done it without these two wonderful friends. Amy and Jenny worked almost the entire party. I am so blessed to have such great friends!
Capture the Flag was the next game, and it was so entertaining to watch. The teams actually worked up some pretty good strategies.
We ended with Ultimate Frisbee - which seemed at times like a contact sport.
